An experience towards reconciliation
400 years of history, condensed in 45 minutes. That is what the participants at the Rendez-vous fransaskois experienced. A workshop where emotions easy to see and reconciliation is in the foreground. From a time when settlers, First Nations, Métis and Inuit people worked hand-in-hand to today as we try to repair the wrongs that were made.
The workshop started at breakfast with a simple paper on the tables: "Reconciliation for me is ...". The answers of more than 50 participants were used to create a mosaic highlighting the most used words. Following the workshop and a discussion with author James Daschuk and knowledge keeper Rodger Ross, participants were asked to fill another message: "To live together, I pledge to ..." The mosaic of words based on their answers clearly shows the commitment of the Fransaskois community: we must work to live together and take our first steps today.
The SHS would like to thank the Assemblée communautaire fransaskoise for the opportunity to present this workshop. We would also like to thank our many volunteers who made the workshop a success.
