Quinn Bell, the new francophone archivist
The SHS announces the hiring of Quinn Bell as archivist. In office since 24 November 2025, he is responsible for the implementation and development of the services of the Centre des Archives fransaskoises.
Quinn holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History of Religions from the University of Regina, is trilingual (English, French, German), and has extensive experience in community project coordination, archival development, and cultural mediation. Since 2021, he has worked at the SHS as a project officer and then as a programming coordinator, where he designed archival collections on the Fransaskois community during the pandemic, coordinated the creation of the website that presents them, and supported the development of educational workshops in French based on the archival holdings. Committed to furthering his education in archival science and supported by the SHS, he has begun training at the Portail International des Archives Francophones and is pursuing a distance learning master's degree in information science.
The Centre des Archives fransaskoises and its staff also benefit from a rich environment of knowledge and experience, supported by the Archives fransaskoises committee—which brings together professional archivists, Fransaskois elders, and academics—as well as a vast support network including professional archivists, the Saskatchewan Provincial Archives, Library and Archives Canada, and French Canadian and Quebec partners
Quinn Bell's hiring follows the departure of Patricia Choppinet on October 5, 2025. Recruited by the Saskatchewan Provincial Archives as a bilingual archivist, Patricia Choppinet follows in the footsteps of her predecessors, Cassidy Foxcroft and Marie-Louise Perron, who have held similar positions since the 1980s. The SHS would like to express its deep gratitude for Patricia's nine years of service, first as coordinator of Heritage Days and then as archivist since the creation of the Centre des Archives fransaskoises. The organization is very proud to have accompanied and supported her professional development and is delighted that she will continue, from Saskatchewan, to play a key role in the preservation and promotion of French-language archives and documents.
The SHS would also like to thank the Saskatchewan Provincial Archives, with whom we have a collaboration agreement for French-language archives in the province. We commend their exemplary efforts in hiring bilingual archivists and staff, as well as their prompt and ongoing support for the preservation, enhancement, and promotion of Francophone archives for the benefit of the entire community.
